Snow Tubing at Powder Ridge: A Winter Rite of Passage

January 16, 2020

It’s a downhill thrill that requires no skill. Yes. We’re talking about tubing, where kids (and their sometimes adventurous grownups) can surge down a snow-sprinkled trail on a cushy innertube on a dizzying descent. Pure childhood exhilaration.

What we love most about tubing is that anyone can, and will, enjoy it. No matter how many years it’s been since you rooted for snow days, you’re sure to have an ear-to-ear smile just watching your kiddos race down the slopes at a giggle-inducing speed. Or perhaps as you race down those slopes yourself!

Tubing is a low-stress, and pretty low-cost family excursion that will earn major points with the kiddos. All you need to do is bundle up, and let gravity do its job.

Whether you're looking for that magical one-on-one time with your child or hosting a stellar snow tubing party with 12 of your kid’s closest friends, Powder Ridge is your go-to place.

Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort is a year-round venue featuring skiing, snowboarding, tubing, synthetic snow (year round skiing, boarding & tubing), zip line, disc golf and mountain biking adventures for all ages. The Ridge also host events, sports competitions, music festivals and beer fests.

Skiing enthusiasts enjoy the boarder and ski cross course, racing family and friends down a four-lane track pitting boarder against boarder and skier against skier. Their instructors use a terrain-based teaching method and offer Connecticut's only Burton Riglet snowboarding program for children as young as 24 months.

The park is home to 20 feature-rich trails for all skill levels, complete with snow tubing for winter fun, Mt. Biking trails for summer and now New England's only 365 Synthetic Snow park. Yes, 365.

That means, if you're a really big fan of tubing, you can enjoy it here year round, thanks to the 365 Synthetic Snow Park that opened in September 2017. The Ridge offers two-hour passes and reservations are strongly recommended.

This season, we can’t wait to spend a thrilling afternoon whizzing down the mountain tops at the best snow tubing spot in Connecticut.

Sliding down mountaintops at full speed, breaking only for lunch and hot cocoa, time with your kiddos – these are the makings of a perfect day.

Sure, it's a long way down each of the 12 tubing lanes, but a magic carpet makes getting to the top as effortless as stepping on an escalator.

Keep in mind that, like all snow sports, there are safety risks. Tubes and helmets are provided with your park pass purchase. And absolutely no tube sharing is allowed.

No matter what you chose, the three tubing runs at Powder Ridge can reach some pretty high speeds. Snow tubing is available on Friday 3pm – 9pm and Saturday 9am – 9pm and Sunday 9am – 7pm.

The Kid’s Snow Zone is a snow play area with mini-tubing. Open during the winter on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a kid’s play area and admission is $5 per child and tubes are provided for the mini-tubing area.

When you’re done braving the cold outdoors, enjoy a warm, cozy atmosphere and food at the Fire at the Ridge.
